Peace of Mine with Home Security

I told you before that I worked for a home security firm before. And that it was great to be able to help people in a time of need. Well one of the things that really helped out was the signs that you get when you have a security system. Yes those alarms work! But having an ADT security sign on your window or by your front door is a great deterrent for would be thieves too! Yes they pay attention to those signs.

You see when someone is looking to break in they do not want to be caught! And knowing that a home is hooked up to a security system means that their chances of getting away scott free and not too good. So it is always best that they just move on. Actually I have heard that if too many security signs are in a neighborhood then they will just try another area all together.

Now do not be silly enough to think you can have a alarm system and signs that you do not have lock up your doors and windows. Be sure that you also join those neighborhood watch programs too. They are there for your safety as well as your neighbors. Teach your children to watch for strangers and make sure you take note of who is up and down your street as well. Security alarms are great for the job they do but they do not replace us being aware of our surroundings.

Just one previous city girl to y'all, it does not matter where you live we all must watch each other. It takes a village to raise a child and that same village cares for each other too!

First Day of College

Well the first day of college is coming up soon. And it does not matter if you 6 or 22 you still want to look your best when you show up that day. So of course we are shopping for "school" clothes. Now it is a lil different than when College Girl was young. First we are not in the metroplex anymore. And it is harder to find that just right look here in small town Texas. So you know us....off to the web we go. (What did we do before the www?)
First we found a hot hot hot pair of heels to trip around on. Yes, walk not fall!
They only have a 4" heel but with CG being 5'7" that will make here 5'11" and a sight to see. She has killer gams (legs to you young folk) with all the walking she does. And this summer whe actually wore shorts all summer so her legs are a beautiful golden color. This is the shoes she fell in love with on first sight. Look for free shipping here!

I Like:

Next we have to have a dress. CG loves to wear black so we looked at those dresses exclusively. She has a great shape so A-line dresses always look really good on her. And all the curves that can be hugged will be. I do not know how she does it but CG has the flatest stomach I have ever seen. Lucky I guess! Well what do you think of this dress? Oh and we found free overnight shipping with the dresses here!

Now last but never least is the fun funky purse to pull the outfit together. CG found this one to her liking. Especially loved the great retro print on it. I am sure there will be plenty of space in this bag for all of the things CG carries around in her purse. I won't even go there myself....scary place. But honest, I think this purse will be a great conversation starter!
And again, that free shipping is an option!

So what do you think of her first day of "school" outfit? I think she will be killer. Of course she is CG, so that always makes her killer to me!

Life is a Circus

We had such a great time at Ringling Brothers Circus last night.

I loved getting to go and enjoy my very first "Greatest Show on Earth"!
And it was well worth the wait.

Again I want to thank Nessa for including me and College Girl into her family outing.
That was very nice of her to ask her poor neighbor to join in!

And Dan again---you did a great job with all the driving of us women folks and kids. I appreciate that!

Elephants from Ringling Bros. Circus, trains a...Image via Wikipedia

I will not forget the lovely kids either, Tristen and Ashley both minded very well. This was an enjoyable trip. I was glad to be part of your family last night.

Now--the acts were beautiful. Oh how I loved seeing the Elephants. And the Tigers were so majestic too! Even the lil doggies were fun. Oh and don't forget the horse acts. All the animals were well groomed, looked well fed and behaved so tame. I had fun laughing at the clowns and gasping at the ariel acts. Wow what courage some people have!

But, yes there is a but...
PETA you do not have the right to scare small children into crying by using your bullhorn when you are not 4 ft away from those children. You was not asked by these parents to "teach" anything to their children. And you did not impress us with horrid stories of unkind acts when we saw how beautiful and well cared for all the animals were. PETA you only showed that your bullying tactics did not work last night. Yes you have your rights, but so did we. Sad we had to move and take our children elsewhere so they could quit crying from all your hollering in their ears with bullhorns. BAD FORM!

Oh No, It Is Time for Decisions

Well Dear Hubby called me the other day with some heart stopping information.

Day 639: I Will Remember YouImage by amanky via Flickr

Oh yes, the dreaded LIFE INSURANCE questions.

He is shopping for life insurance quotes for him and me. Now I understand why we need to have life insurance. But it still has put me further into the middle age group. Not that I need any reminders of the gray hair I keep covering up with Ms. Clariol.

But to know it is time to be serious about our plans for our future is heart stopping. Life is no longer just the bowl of cherries but what to do with the pits too. I am sure we can find cheap life insurance that will fit into our really tight budget. And I know it is very important for us to have. Even more so with the multiple heart issues DH has. So keep your fingers crossed that you are not ready for the bigger decision. Like how to make choices as to your worth or what type of funeral plans we may need one day.

I'm Having a Heat Wave

I swear I am melting.
Honest!

I am not sure how we are going to handle August.
It is not just hot here but very humid too.

Ivaylovgrad Reservoir, Haskovo Province, BulgariaImage via Wikipedia

I wear the least I can and still stay decent.
And of course all the doors and windows are open.

We did use the a/c one day this last month to make it more comfortable for some babies we were caring for. And just that one day raised our electric bill by $50.00. Yeah just one day!
Can you imagine what a whole month would be like?

I know that last few years if we used the a/c in the summer our electric bills were $500-$600. PER MONTH.
I know we can not afford that and that is the reason for the heat wave this summer.
But there has to be some sort of answer.

If only I could afford to have siding put on our old house for insulation.

Where Did You Get Those Peepers?

Time to save on eyeglasses. Yes there is a great way to save even here.

zenni specsImage by bedroom.eyes via Flickr

You can buy stylish prescription glasses online from $8. There is a huge selection of frames, with single vision lens, sunsensor lens, tinted sunglasses lens, bifocal lens and progressive lens. The secret for these low prices is that they only sell their own manufactured frames.

Check it out here for yourself.

Complete Single Vision Eyeglasses starting at $8.00
Complete Bi-Focal Eyeglasses Starting at $25.00
Complete Progressive Eyeglasses starting at $37.00
Anti Scratch coating Free
UV protection Free
Lens Edge polishing and Beveling Free

Upgrades
Premium Photochromic lenses for
(Clear indoors, darkens outdoors in sunlight )
$39.00
Upgrade to 1.61 index lenses for $17.00
Upgrade to 1.67 index lenses for $37.00
Premium anti reflective coating $4.95
Sunglass color tint coating (7 available) $4.95

And shipping and handling is a flat rate of $4.95 per order, no matter how many glasses you ordered. Pretty impressive? I think so.

I know that this whole house hold has to wear glasses. When you have to purchase 4 or more pair a year then it adds up to $1,000.00 or more a year. Cut that down to $77.00 a year for 4 of us. That is a savings of $933.00 a year. Believe you me that kind of savings adds up before you can sneeze. Heck it is a vacation in itself. SO....make sure you pop over to pick out your glasses online.

Travels to the Good Ol Days

There was a time that traveling was a romantic quest. You would save up, have that amazing

A large trunk with leather handlesImage via Wikipedia

trunk that would follow you around the world and be off on that ship to never never land.
You know how George Baily dreamed of all those stickers from exotic lands to be gracing the trunk he had chosen.

But now, traveling is quite simple. You just pick up your roll on luggage and go. It has helped with the airline business to be able to take your hartmann luggage right on the plane with you. Of course for those long long trips you will still have to check you tumi luggage in. It really helps to be able to store your briggs and riley luggage in each other when your at home too. I know that we used a small roll on suitcase for my college girl when she was in high school. It replaced her backpack and made it so much easier on her tiny back then lugging all that weight around. School officials did not like that much but with a note from her doctor (easy to get) they had to let her use it instead of damaging her back. So do you still have an old steamer trunk? Or do you go light and easy with your stream lined luggage?

Happy Birthday Emma

This last weekend was College Girl's lil sister's 3rd birthday.
I know that does not make sense to some, but on with the story.

We were so thrilled to be able to give her some gifts that spoke to the child's nature. She is a lover of animals and plants. A natural when it comes to being a farm girl. Of course she is stuck in town but they are working on a farm right there. Honest, her family has a large garden, fruit trees of all kinds planted and all the dogs, cats and rabbits a lil girl could want.

So we decided to get her a bird feeder for her birthday. We looked at hummingbird feeders

A hummingbird feeder with red nectar.Image via Wikipedia

since it is so fun to watch them flit around. But we decided on a regular bird feeder with seed. Well this was a good idea since she received 4 lil chickens as gifts. Yeah, I said chickens. They gave them some of the bird food we had supplied for the bird feeder to feed the chickens til they make it to the feed store. Yeah I thought of the lil lady so happy to see hummingbirds flying around her yard or watching a beautiful red cardinal eating from the feeder. Never did I imagine she would be out calling "Here Chick, Chick, Chick!"

Oh and she also was given two baby goats the day after her birthday. OH MY!
I still think that I am going to go for the hummingbird feeder for her. I know that she will enjoy seeing them just as much as all of the other barn yard animals.

Time to Take the Bat Away

Does your mailbox look like this one?

If you live in the country like I do then it just might.

We have "lovely lil boys" around here who think taking a baseball bat to a mailbox is extreme fun.

Of course it does not make the home owner very happy!

So there are times you just have to go out and get new Mailboxes .

At least with these mail boxes you don't have to worry about being bashed or taken advantage of. That would be worth so much when those "cute loving boys" come around again.
Have you ever had this happen to you? What did you do? Is there a solution other than getting a post office box? I would like to solve this problem. And I know that kids get bored around here but I don't need my mailbox to be the result.

No Day Present for the EX?

My ex-hubby and my College Girls dad is a big time football fan. CG was wanting to get him

Dallas Cowboys logoImage via Wikipedia

something really amazing this year for his no day present. I suggested she should look into some football tickets. CG was online searching when she asked should she get Baltimore Ravens Tickets or Dallas Cowboys Tickets or Green Bay Packers tickets. Now I thought this was a real "DUH" moment for her. I know that she was not sitting in front of the television all those times he was screaming at it. But we did move here from Dallas/Ft Worth. SO, I would assume she would think of the Dallas Cowboys Tickets first. But not in her head. She was looking at the idea of who they would be playing against. Now, I never thought of that one. "DUH" me! Of course I would always try and get tickets against the Redskins just because I know it would really get to the ex if the Redskins won. Ain't I bad????

It is not that I do not want her dad to enjoy his no day present. It is just that he is still my EX. When do you drop that part out of your thoughts? Well maybe he will enjoy his tickets. I know that it would be an amazing surprise for him. So I wonder what game he will get to see this year?
