My 2012 Photo Book
That Perfect Card
My goodness how the time does slip by. I am sure your just as busy at your home as I am here. We have been doing all of the day to day life but add in the extra gotta get done too. The poor yard was ignored all summer with the heat wave. And now it has decided to rain. The most lush yard of horrid weeds you ever did see has cropped up. So as soon as it stops raining (which we do not really wish for it to do) it is time to drag out the lawnmower. In December no less.
The Christmas tree has also been hauled out of the garage. Dusted off and made to shine with the lights, garland, tinsel and ornaments. Looks pretty okay to me. And we took down many of our day to day knick-knacks and photos to put up Christmas decorations. It looks good and so far doggie and kitty safe. Of course we are keeping the gifts put up. I can just see how they would all be torn up if they were out unguarded.
And as always there are last minute gifts to wrap. You have that at your home don't you. Something that caught you attention at the last moment. Or you found in the back of the closet where you hid it last April. Oh and I had to get some special cards out. Yes, we have the traditional Christmas cards. I am a recycler in the worst way. I use the ones from last year to make tags for my gifts this year. Honestly! But I have 3 special cards from Blue Mountain Arts that I just have to share this season.
One if for my niece who is having to really pull up the boot straps and get down to the nitty gritty in life. Her husband left her this fall with 3 young girls and no job, car or cash. Well she did not waste any time at all. Got a job, found a rent house and is doing what needs to be done. I know how hard it is on her. But at the same time, so very proud of her hard work and determination. In the middle of all of this muck and mire I want to remind her of how wonderful she is. So I have one that tells her just that. Some of what this card says is:
"Life can disappoint you sometimes,
and things happen that you didn't expect and don't deserve.
But I know the amazing person you are,
the beautiful dreams you have,
and the wonderful gifts you possess..."
It goes on to tell her how proud of her we are. And that she is capable of doing much more than she ever expected to do. More so that she is loved, honored and cherished. I know it is just the right card for her right now.
I also have a friend who does not celebrate the holidays in the manner we do. But I love letting her know just how special she is to me. Over 25 years of friendship is not to be sneezed at. And lifetime friends are to be treasured. So instead of the traditional Christmas card she is getting one of the Blue Mountain Arts cards. These cards are the creation of Susan and Stephen Schutz. A start up company 40 years ago that became a nationwide known go to greeting card to find the one that really said just the right thing. I have always adored the water color art work on the cards along with the perfect poems. “We are proud to launch our new Blue Mountain Arts Classics greeting cards,” said Susan. “These are emotions and messages about the most important things people are compelled to share with others. Lovely designs are captured in brilliant hues, printed on embossed Deckle cut paper to provide the finishing touch of a feathered edge. These are cards that people will treasure forever.”
The very best of the 3 cards I am sharing this year is the one I gave already to College Girl. She is my solace, my soul within, my amazing awe. And I just had to find a way to let her know how much I honor her, adore her and want to always be there for her. Well of course, that is just what I found in the card for her. (I told you this is the perfect card company.) I hope they don't mind, but I just have to share this one with you. Now remember these are copyrighted. So please just read, don't use it!
For My Beautiful Daughter
I looked at you today and saw the same beautiful eyes that looked at me with love when you were a baby...
I looked at you today and saw the same beautiful moth that made me cry when you first smiled at me when you were a baby. It was not long ago that I held you in my arms long after you fell asleep and I just kept rocking you all night long. I looked at you today and saw my beautiful daughter--no longer a baby but a beautiful person with a full range of emotions, feelings, ideas and goals. Every day is exciting as I continue to watch you grow. I want you to always know that in good and in bad times, I will love you. And that no matter what you do or how you think or what you say, you can depend on my support, guidance, friendship and love every minute of every day. I love being your mother.
Well? Isn't that perfect? Well it is for us. Especially with the rocking part. She is 24 and to this day I can wrap my arms around her, rock and she starts to drift off. You know it brought tears to my eyes and to hers. I am so happy to be able to tell her just how I feel in such a simple yet beautiful way.
So what is the lil different things you do during the holidays? Do you single out those very special people in your life and let them know they are honored? Oh and just so you know, Blue Mountain has Christmas cards too! Thanks so much to them for sharing with me. It is also appreciated.

Diva Moments
Whew! What a busy few days. But oh so great to have experienced. I have days of things to tell you. It has been one Diva moment to the next. So in a nut shell here it all is.
The first Diva up is Our Gentleman who is in the hospital from dehydration and not eating. He is doing much better and should be home in a day or two. He is already looking 100% better but he would have to if you had seen him two days ago. And once things are up and going again he only has 5 to 8 radiation treatments left. That is the light at the end of the tunnel. I know we will be throwing a party for him then.
The Other Mother and I popped up to Dallas yesterday for a party at T-Hee. That was a great way to feel like Divas ourself. After having my glass of wine (what a way to shop) we were then going from nook to cranny looking at all the fun items. We are planning Dear Hubby's birthday party in November. And what we want to do, we could never find around here. Now I have to be on the hush hush here for now because Dear Hubby may be lurking around. I do not want to give away the fun we have planned. But can I show you some of the really cool items we did see?
I fell in love with the Vera Bradley collection. This is new for me but I know y'all have seen these bright patterns. I could decorated my whole house with the flowers and paisleys. The Other Mother was just drooling over this one! I know that I would be the Diva with the MOST if I had just one of these bags.
Aren't these too cool? I wanted to get one for College Girl. They are bottle openers. And doesn't every College Girl need one for the party starter? Okay she is not big on parties but dang what fun is this?
Halloween is just around the corner. Why let all the lil kiddos have all the fun? These are toilet seat clings. And look at what may be waiting for your guest when they just have to go. IKES! One of these did end up with us...but that is all I am saying right now.
The Other Mother picked up this pink Melissa & Doug stampers set for Princess (Diva) Emma. And she already had it out this morning playing before school. These are great since the ink is washable so she can also use these as washable tattoos too!
College Girl is a fan of Johnathan Adler and they had some of his collection there. The travel coffee mug is perfect. Even the right Tarleton Purple color for her. Any of this would help her feel like a Diva. Thanks so to T-Hee for letting us browse. And of course to Dallas B2B and Texas Holly for keying us into this event.
Now I mentioned Divas.....well I felt like one too. First the T-Hee party then off to the Anatole Hotel in Dallas. I just had to stop by to say a hello to Roger Barnett. He is the CEO of Shaklee. And at the beginning of the summer when I was invited to California it was from Shaklee. Roger made me feel amazing. From the spa to the wine tour to dining out, I was all Diva. So you just have to understand that since he had made it all the way to Texas, I just had to go say hello. After a few minutes of visiting and a hug and kiss goodbye......well the trip home was next. All my Diva moment floating behind me.
Well this all makes me wanna share one more Diva. Ding Dong The Diva's Dead by Cat Melodia has been on my bedside table this week. I was first drawn to it for the theater aspect and College Girl having taught me so much of the behind the scenes of .....well the scenes. The main character Deborah de Lille is an opera singer who has been doing low budget shows. Finally she has her foot in the door for that move up with a small town company. Now this I can relate too. From there the fun starts. You know how it goes when there is great competition, you just step over the one in front of you. Well that is especially true when they start dying off. I laughed out loud time and time again. A winner of a murder mystery and a great comedy, something that is not often found in the same sentence lil on same book. The artists assembled Tales of Hoffmann know that opera on not the only thing on their minds. A rapid role call of who is to love who are not for the faint of heart. But the atmosphere may have become literally cutthroat. The singer who died under suspicious circumstances will be replaced by Debbie. Then a minor player suddenly decides to leave so Debbie assumes that role. With two small roles it seems that they become something to kill for. The cast and crew are rollicking fun while showing the dysFUNctional side of life too. It has all been great fun of guessing who done it. I cant wait to find out if Debbie continues in other shows aka books. Cat may think about how Debbie would do traveling with a show doing Le Miz?

Penguins are Everywhere

Just Call me Bag Lady
Did you know I am a bag lady? Honestly. I have a collection of bags that I carry around in my car that would put most bag ladies to shame. I adore having my bags. Big ones that handle large purchases like those family size toilet paper packages. My lined bags that I use to put meat in from the store to home. The many book size bags that hold everything! Toys, trash and tools even. I have pink ones. Ones that are ecologically based. And those that tout stores and products. But now I can also give you bags. Yeap! I have bags to wrap my gifts in too.

Penny Pinching or Smart Thinking
I have had several things going on today. The first I wish to share is my goodie bag I have from Nessa and Con Agra Foods and HEB Stores. I won in a giveaway over at Ramblings of a Texas Housewife. Look at all the goodies I received.
Next is today's make it work lesson. First long story shortened. Lunch did not go the way I planned. We were going to have sliders. I had the hamburger meat, buns (or so I thought) and onions. So will at the store to drop off scripts for Dear Hubby I picked up a jar of dill pickles, sliced cheese and some lettuce. Well in our produce section they have discounted $1 bags. Today I snatched up a bag with a head of lettuce and 3 cucumbers. Now that saved me .29 cents on just the lettuce and made the cucumbers free. I went home and sliced up the lettuce for the sliders. Longer story there....did not work, did not have buns and hamburger meat fell apart cooking. So we had sliders in tortillas instead. Worked. Ha Ha. Tonight the rest of the meat, lettuce and onions are going to help me make taco salad. Have all the stuff here and will get another meal that way.
But I used the cucumbers to make us 2 jars of homemade pickles for later use. I sliced up the cucumbers and packed them into jars.
Nice thin slices made with my lovely Yoshi ceramic knife. That was a birthday present this year and I adore it. Have not even cut myself which is the norm for me.
Next I drained the juice from the pickles I had bought into one jar. The other had 2/3 vinegar and 1/3 water in it.
I then added just a lil (oh about a tablespoon) of dill pickling powder that I already had to the first jar. The other jar I put in about 3 tablespoons of it.
Here is the Ball spice that was in the back of my cabinet already. Well I shook them up real well and stuck them in the fridge. I am going to let them cold pickle and hope to have two jars of pickles later on.
Well? What do you think? Are there things like that you do? Ways to stretch the dollar. Or ideas of gosh this did not work so what can I do with it? Do you even try to cut corners. Does it work or do you find that you just have to fix the "homemade" item with a store bought? I know I really do try and stretch the almighty dollar and feed our family of 4. With just this today I will have a total of 8 meals and the only extra cost was just under $5.00 today. This is how we work to live frugally yet still be happy with our choices.

Great New Toy Bins
I am unsure how I can still be ill. It has been longer than 2 weeks and I am becoming exhausted. So again I am asking forgiveness for being so sporadic on here as of late. As you can guess I really want to climb in bed and pull the covers up over my head. But then I could not breath. Alas.
Instead, I have a kiddo here today to watch. And then working at Curves this afternoon. Then the grandbabes will be here tonight for Easter weekend. So still busy as can be. Since I have so many kiddos in and out of my home I am thrilled to tell you I have a new toy organizer! It is a Delta Children's Products Disney Princess 9 Bin Toy Organizer. Yeah! It is going to make putting up all the toys so much easier. And of course it is my favorite color, Pink! I plan on getting index cards and drawing toys on them to show the kiddos what toys go in what bins. I have done this before and it works great. If the kids can see what you want then they are pretty good at helping out. I have to say thanks to CSN for sending me this one to review. I am also glad to see that it is 20% off right now too. So that is a savings of $10.04. I am always looking for ways to save a little every where possible. You too? This was shipped in one box and was a snap for me to put together on my own too. Of course all the lil girls here wanted to help. So toys have been quickly moved from the big ol' plastic box to the smaller bins. Now we can get to just the ones we want and not have to wade through tons of other toys. It was fun to have the lil ladies help me organize them. And they were so proud of doing it on their own.

A Century of Flavor Giveaway

Nielsen-Massey Vanillas recently introduced a new line of Pure Flavors: Pure Chocolate Extract, Pure Almond Extract, Pure Orange Extract, Pure Lemon Extract, Pure Coffee Extract, Pure Peppermint Extract, Orange Blossom Water and Rose Water. All Nielsen-Massey products are certified Kosher and Gluten-free. I know that I love to add different flavors to my cookies and make a twist or play on what they taste like. I have to say my favorite has to be the Rose Water in a light pink butter cookie.

Stay With Me Socks Give Away
I have been helping my niece some with her two lil ones. They are 2 and 1 now. Of course the 2 yr old is up and running and helping in so many ways. (Yes, she is the girl) But the 1 yr old is doing his best to take life slow. (Lil brother) He has yet to decided to walk and seems pretty content to use the baby walker as his own personal tricked out set of wheels. So he spends quite a bit of time running around on our big front porch.
He also has some fat feet! Sorry but true. Not to many shoes will fit him. And of course socks get kicked off in no time at all. So you bet I was happy to review a pair of Stay With Me Socks.
These socks designed with an adjustable Velcro strap to keep them nice and snug around the babies ankles. This design is to help them stay on you lil one's feet. I do love that they had the skid free bottoms and that they can loop together for the laundry. Heck I want that feature for my Dear Hubby's socks. I tried out the larger pair for my great nephew. Well at a year old I was not surprised that he did get them off. That is what those fine motor skills are for....right! He was able to grab at them til he worked the Velcro straps loose and then push and a tug and the socks where in his hands to play with.
But I bet a lil one could not do that. What do you think? A newborn my try and kick a pair of socks off but pull....nah! Do you want to find out? You can.....you see I do not have a newborn around here. But I do have two pair of Stay With Me Socks for Newborns to give away.

Sweet Scents from the Litter Box
This last weekend our neighbors had a birthday party. Their in-laws were driving across the state just to attend. Of course my friend wanted the house to be at it's best. Now did I mention that she owns 3 very large dogs? And that they love to stay in the house all they can? And that they sometimes have accidents? Hey, it happens to all of us. Well she asked what we used to keep odor down. You see, we have 5 dogs and they are in the house the majority of the time too!
So I let her borrow Clear the Air Pet Odor Eliminator. This is a all non-toxic product that we are currently using in our litter box. We have a new kitten and oh yuck.....the smells that come from that litter box. Earth Care Products was kind enough to send me a can of their Pet Odor Eliminator just the week before. So I was happy to share with our friends.
Now when I first opened the can I was not too thrilled by the scent. Of course I am use to those

The Method that Works
I have been working on losing weight for 9 months now. And it is hard....very hard. Now I can handle the exercise I am doing. Actually ready to add more of it on. Diets are something I can do but not loving. Not too hard to cut out somethings but miss others. Most of all I suck at control. It is so hard to feel that I have to always be in control of everything I do. And my weight loss is showing that I am wearing down. Getting really tired and want to revive myself so I do not lose momentum. So I was happy to read The Anderson Method. This is not a diet book. This is not a book of exercise. This is a book that works as a companion to your weight loss. William Anderson a Licensed Mental Health Counselor shares with us how to reprogram addictive habits. And eating is a necessary habit yet quite addictive at that. William Anderson lost 140 pounds (wow!) and has kept it off for over two decades now. He shares from experience and from what he has learned in years of counseling others.
In reading this book I have found ways to gain control over habits and compulsions. What sets up craving. And how to change what we crave. Also ways to adopt new habits and to stop using food for pleasure and comfort which is something I have always done.
Now I am better at conscious eating and planning ahead. Stop using DIETS and work at having a lifestyle change and stop buying those goodies that are not good for me.
I am learning to use tools for a better self image. It is has been hard for me to see the changes in my body even though everyone else sees them. With the Anderson Method I am working on written goals and self talk. I am also learning aversive conditioning which I think will help me focus on what I am doing better. Many overweight people have tried all other diets, fads and programs only to fail. But using this method of reprogramming their thought process they have won and learned the secret to permanent weight loss.
