The Christmas Web Tradition

Oh how I have been waiting to tell you about The Christmas Web. First off you have to know that my last name is Webb.  So that right there starts off my interest in The Christmas Web.  Next is that it is a unique way to start a tradition for a family.  We all have those that have been passed down but what about those that we start within our family.   Is yours the Elf on the Shelf or serving food at a local shelter or the whole family out in their PJs with hot cocoa and popcorn while looking at Christmas lights?

Some of our traditions is all day cookie making.  Really all day!  We put out a good 65 to 80 dozen cookies that day for gifts.  The annual jelly, jam and bread making for gifts.  Granny M is our go to woman for all things sticky while I am the one that packs in the carbs.  I do find that it is harder to keep the traditions now that JD is off on her own and our other children and grandbabes are not close.  This year seems particularly quiet so far.  So I want to see about doing The Christmas Web when the Grandbabes get to come for their visit.

Developed by Kerry J. Grinkmeyer, The Christmas Web was inspired by the Grinkmeyer family tradition of hanging family Christmas stockings on the mantel the day after Thanksgiving. In each stocking, Mr. Grinkmeyer would insert a spool (Magic Wand) with 70 yards of yarn wound around it.  When the children came down Christmas morning, they found that the yarn was wound through the house - around window latches, door knobs, chairs and doors. It ended in a closet or cabinet which held their special gift from one of Santa’s elves, an elf who had been looking out for them for the past year and knew of their desire for this special gift.  20 years later, this tradition was passed down to their three grandchildren.  In 2011, Mr. Grinkmeyer wrote the book Christmas Web to share his family tradition with the rest of the world.

Well this continued to grow.  Finally Mr. Grinkmeyer wrote a book to tell the story of how Santa and the Elves came about with a Christmas Web.  It is explained and shown here in this video.  Maybe this is the new tradition you have been waiting for.  It is one that the "Webb" household is starting this year with their Grandbabes.  I can't wait to see the fun of them searching for their special gift.  Thanks so to the whole Grinkmeyer family for sharing their tradition and giving me The Christmas Web set to start our new tradition.

My 2012 Photo Book

I enjoy the ease of making these photo books to help me round up my year.  I did one for my grandson for his first year to share with his mommy and daddy.  And I   also did one for JD for her college graduation tribute.  So this time I did a year round up for a special Christmas gift to Dear Hubby and myself.  Here it is!

The Right Card Always-Hallmark Giveaway-CLOSED

Have you started looking for you holiday greeting cards?  No?  Wow!  I have been to our local store and seen the new Hallmark displays.  I know of several I want to get already.  I want to send the 'Stache card to our KT up in Missouri.  This bright red card showcases Saint Nick’s thick, white mustache. Remove
the furry ‘stache and use the adhesive strip to wear it yourself and fully embrace
the joy of the season — hopefully you’ll get some free milk and cookies, too.  I know KT would take the removable Santa mustache off of the card and put it on right off.  Oh what fun photos that will provide.

The Grandbabes as well as Princess Emma will be counting down the days til Christmas.  It will be easier when they have one of the two new Countdown Cards.  One with Santa and the other with Mickey.  I am going to set each one up before I pop them in the mail.  Something to make them have that extra bit of excitement!  Better is that they can use these every year!  (Well until the batteries run out or I figure out how to replace them.)  There are also a card that has a Recordable Wish list.
Children can record their wish lists directly into this card to let Santa
know what they’d like to receive for Christmas. Fun for all ages, the
Recordable Wish List card is especially perfect for little ones who aren’t
yet able to write a wish list for Santa.

Last year we gave the two Grand Babes that are brother and sister a Hallmark Recordable Story Book.  Dear Hubby and I shared recording us reading the book for them.  I found out that they listen to it almost every night.  Loving their special bed time treat from Nonnie and Coppie.  This year we are going to be adding on for our youngest Grandbabe, Scotty.  I hope he two grows up listening to us.  Now there is also the Interactive Story Buddy.  We have the bear for a special gift this year.  But there is also now Jingle All the Way with an adorable white puppy to read to that lil someone.

For my 8 year old grand daughter there is Hallmark's Justin Bieber cards are sure to bring holiday cheer to her.  I have one all ready to mail out.  What do you think?  Are your girls just as freaked out about the Bieber?   If not then pick up a box of holiday cards.  I love the pop up cards I have to send out.  I also noticed at the store that many boxed card sets where 50% off too!  Go see if it is the same for your store.

Hallmark was happy to include cards for me to send to my own grand babes and extras to share with a Crazed Mind reader as a giveaway (approx. retail value of the giveaway: $45-50).  Isn't that lovely to have a chance to share?

The Hallmark holiday greeting card pack will include:
·         An Interactive Recordable Greeting
·         An Interactive Countdown Greeting
·         An assortment of additional boxed and Signature Collection greetings

It is really easy to enter to win. Just comment below.  I want to know what would you like to share the most of the items at Hallmark Christmas site.  Pop over, look around and then come back and tell me what you fell in love with.  You can get an extra entry by tweeting.  Just post this tweet and leave the link in the comments below.  You can do this daily!

OUR WINNER IS DEE!  CONGRATS!

I See Me!

Well I am sure your gearing up for the holidays.  Of course there is Thanksgiving just around the corner.  We are also celebrating Dear Hubby's 50th birthday soon.  Yeah that is a pretty big milestone.  And then there is the big day, Christmas.  The Grandbabes will be biting on the bit soon to get to the goodies then.  Right after that is Granny M's 79th birthday.  Yeah, November and December are pretty busy times for us.  We are working on holiday jams already.  I am also gearing up for all of the holiday baking too.  But most of all I am hoarding away all the gifts for my family.

Right now I have two really special gifts for the Grandbabes from I See Me.  They are personalized just for them.  You see my oldest has always loved puzzles.  Thus I ordered her a puzzle that has her name on it as well as beautiful artwork of animals.  Of course the picture is a sample as I have not put her puzzle together.   The pieces on top are really large for a floor puzzle.  Then the bottom ones are small and all the same pattern.  So it will be interesting for her to look and piece out her name.

This summer I noticed that our middle grandbabe has really been working on coloring in the lines and very neatly.  He has shown so much pride in doing this.  That is why I ordered him his very own name coloring book.  His is the one with the owl.  Inside he will find each letter of his name per page as he spells it out with matching pictures to color. I know that Princess Emma would enjoy one just as much since she loves to draw and color too.

I was looking at the personalized placemats for our youngest Grandbabe.  He is up and running now.  I am not too sure on how well he is being kept at the table during meal times either.  You know how they get at this stage.  But a placemat no only keeps the table cleaned up it can help entertain your young one when their attention wonders.  We use to keep one under JD's high chair that attached to our dining table when she was just a wee one.  Add in that it is personalized and you can have learning time.  Pointing out the letters of their name and spelling it out for them.  Also the bright colors and shapes could be identified.  Seems like a winning gift to me.

FREE SHIPPING promotion is here! Enter coupon code SANTA at checkout at www.iseeme.com. Hurry! Expires November 14th!

Make sure you pop over and check out I See Me.  They have personalized books for Christmas and Hanukkah.  I bet you can find the just right gift that would be for your lil one and them only.  Also know that when 2 or more placemats or coloring books are ordered...there is always a discount!!  You can also find I See Me on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.  It was lovely of I See Me to provide me with both the puzzle and coloring book in exchange for letting you know about them.  I could not have asked for better gifts to give to my oldest grandbabes.

A Merry Little Christmas-Gift Guide

I love a good Christmas story.  I seem to add one to my collection every year.  So here is my choice for my gift guide this year, Anita Higman's A Merry Little Christmas.  I hear tale that the farm in this story is much like the farm she grew up on.  I love how real life winds its way in and out of novels.  Oh and Anita says if you would like to receive a free bookmark or an autographed bookplate please let me know through the ‘contact me’ button on my site.  She would be happy to mail you one of each. Now this is coming from a very successful author, she has 31 published books to her name.

Anita Higman grew up just next door in Oklahoma.  Now she has transplanted her roots in the Houston Texas area.  As a matter of fact two of her books, Love Finds You in Humble Texas, and Love Finds You in Humble Texas take place just outside of Houston.  Yes there is an Humble Texas.  Oh, and it is pronounced Um-ble, the H is silent.  One of Ms. Higman’s co-authored books entitled, A Tribute to Early Texas, has a foreword by Elmer Kelton a Texas legend.  There is also a monthly contest to win one of Anita's books on her web site. Just enter your name and email address....simple!

Fall in love with this cozy story about two people from different worlds.

Franny Martin is an Oklahoma farm girl who's preparing to spend the holidays alone...again. Then Charlie Landau shows up one day, all wealth and polish, and offers to buy Franny's farm. Franny has no money to speak of, but she is clever and spirited, and she's more than happy to sell the farm and move to the city.

As Sinatra croons from the radio and Christmas descends upon her charming farm, Franny teaches Charlie the curious and sometimes comical ways of country life. In the process, they unearth some discoveries of the heart-that sometimes love comes when you're least ready for it. Will the holidays bring their most impossible dreams within reach?
Meet Anita Higman:

Best-selling and award-winning author, Anita Higman, has over thirty books published (several coauthored) for adults and children. She's been a Barnes & Noble "Author of the Month" for Houston and has a BA degree, combining speech communication, psychology, and art. Anita loves good movies, exotic teas, and brunch with her friends.

Thanks to Litfuse and Anita for letting me hang out with them on this blog tour.  I am really loving the book they sent.

Fun Filled Weekend

Whew today has been one busy day.  As a matter of fact the whole weekend has had us going 90 to nothing.  Friday night was my niece's 25th birthday.  Happy day for her!  So her two kiddos and Princess Emma all popped over for a evening of play.  The kids spent the night and Princess Emma came back over Saturday to continue in the festivities.

Princess Emma showed up with her GeoPalz on.  Have you seen them?  Emma has the butterfly.  She wears it all the time at home, playing in the park and such.  In time she will get to wear it at school but Other Mother wants the new to wear off so she does not mess with it and get in trouble for not paying attention.  Good Idea.    Emma was in her first marathon last year and has hopes of doing more.  She may not be fast but she does not stop at all.  I wish I had her lasting energy.

GeoPalz is the first decorative pedometer for kids.  You can go online to register your steps for an interactive media and gaming arcade. This is designed to promote physical fitness through rewards-based online gaming. Through the website, users can exchange steps walked (and logged through their pedometer) for time with games. In order to promote the budding young gamer (5+) to also get active and stay healthy, GeoPalz has launched this brand new arcade! GeoPalz has a prize option available (frisbees, basketballs, even bikes), but now the kids have even more options.

There was also movies playing.  Having 3 kiddos from the age of 4 to 6 and both girls and a boy we needed variety.  Sometimes all three were watching and other times one or two was.  Now everyone was happy to watch an episode of Sid the Science Kid.  It was 'Sleep? Who needs it?'.  Gosh that is one for me too.  I sleep so very little with out help of medication.  Sid thinks if he stays up all night then he and his toys can pretend to fly in space.  So at school he checks out just why you need sleep.  I really liked the way the kiddos all learned how to slow down and rest.  I was ready to sleep too!  These new episodes will run in November the 12th - 15th.  Watch for them.

Our lil man was all hands on deck to see Disney's Jake and the Neverland Pirates in Jake Saves Bucky.  He especially loved having his own inflatable sword to join in on the swash buckling action.  This was just released with 5 episodes so you can pick a show at a time.  We started off with the feature.  Then for a bonus we joined in on the Pirate-oke.  That is a pirate version of karaoke.  It is fun to pretend with the kids this way.  But I have to make sure they do not decide to make me walk the plank.  You can join in on the fun with the downloadable games 7 activities.

Download Printable Activities!

Now the last show the kiddos did not get to see.  I think it is a lil over their age range.  But JD is itching to get her hands on it.  I think it will be part of her Christmas this year.  She is just an overgrown kid like her Poppa.  She has season one so here is part 2 of season two of CatDog.  Shout! Factory always has the best of Nickolodeon shows.  It is pure nostalgia for JD.  CatDog’s friendship helps them to stick together through a steady stream of outrageous escapades that bring fun, excitement and a heap of uproarious adventures — as if they have any choice!

I wish to thank all of the companies above for providing us a fun filled weekend. I promise we did our fair share of running, pretending and even just chilling some.  Hey you know it is movie time with they ask for popcorn for breakfast!

What's in your Stocking?

Yes it is time for us to get down to the nitty gritty of Christmas.  The stocking!  What a funny yet time honored tradition.  As many have said,  It's the only time of year when we love to sit in front of a dead tree and eat candy out of our socks.  But I love picking out what goes in each stocking.

Do you have favorites every year to fill the stocking?  My mom always made sure there was an apple and an orange along with some whole nuts.  I use to always make sure there was a new toothbrush and toothpaste.  Hey, it was needed!  But now it is more specialized for each person.

There may be a manicure kit for College Girl.  And puzzle books for Dear Hubby.  I include a book light for a reader or bath scrubbie for that young teen.  But the best always is the sweets.  My dad loves peppermint so we know to add that to his.  Granny M loves nuts but it is better out of the shell now!  And this year I want to get back a lil closer to natural.  So I am going organic with the goodies.

My pick?  For me, organic chocolate almonds from SunRidge Farms who was so kind to share with me.  I love almonds as it is, then add in my fav of chocolate.  Well how can you go wrong?  College Girl is doing more running and swimming these days.  So I feel that she needs a lil extra boost.  So she is getting the organic NutCracker Crunch.  A balanced blend of energy that will keep her light on her toes: hearty nuts and airy, crunchy, light and flavorful Organic Japanese Rice Crackers.  And of course Dear Hubby loves the flavors.  So I found him Tamari roasted mixed nuts.  All healthy choices while still having that special flair.  How can I go wrong?

Well what else to put in the stocking?  What has been your favorite surprises?  Any hints as to what else I can add.  Hurry as the clock is ticking!

Unwinding with a Good Book

Hello all.  Today I started off with a great big ol cup of coffee doused with a shot of butterscotch schnaaps.  And boy did it hit the spot.  Lush?  Naw, just enjoying the small joys of life.  The Other Mother had popped over for our morning coffee routine.  We teased each other over a game of cards.  Then she had to go get Poppi for lunch.  Dear Hubby texted me with a hug, kiss and wink.  Also invited me out to a lunch date.  So happy to get out for a lil time alone.  We really enjoyed the Texas favorite of bacon wrapped, cream cheese filled jalapenos.

Granny M was happy that I did the last of her Christmas gift wrapping before lunch too.  She is all ready to go and visit her great grandbabes on Christmas day.  I know that she will have a wonderful time.  As for here, we are dealing with some much needed winter rains.  Glad to see it but have mud trails from all of the dogs needing to go in and out.  My broom and mop are getting quite a work out.  But the tree is up and unmolested so far so life is good.

I am looking forward to a late afternoon hot bubble bath though.  That is a wonderful gift to myself.  A time that I lock out the world and give in to indulgence.  Warm water with lovely scents to embrace me.  I also take me a book to help me unwind.  And of late I have been taking in my CD player and listening to my story.    Now that is the best way to really unwind.

Well of course I am going to share my latest reading joys with you.  The book on CD I am listening to is based on my favorite fairy tale, Cinderella.  In "Cinder" , a 16 year old cyborg, we see the time honored story with a great wicked twist.  Yes the step mother is a horror.  And there are the step sisters, prince and kingdom too.  But now we are on Earth that is currently crumbling under the devastation that has been plagued upon it.  You know how it goes in the sci-fi world.  Thankfully Cinder is a cyborg that has the ability to get things fixed up just right.  This brings in the notice of Price Kai.  And that is where the story starts to heat up.  Well not to tell you all of it, but let's just say the step mother messes up things, the step sister gets hurt and all of it becomes quite a mess before it all finds the right way of working out.  I am enjoying the twist and turns.  How the scientists get involved and find a new guinea pig (so to speak) that might just change how everything is being done.  Marissa Meyer is a great new writer and a fellow NaNoWriMo participant.

I have had the book "The Crossings" by Serita Jakes (wife of T. D. Jakes) on my bedside table.  This novel is based in my lovely home state of Texas.  And it is about a murder mystery too.  So you know it is top on my to read pile.  It starts of with horrid shooting 10 years ago.  A gunman opened up fire upon a school bus coming home from a football game.  In the damage done the cheer leading coach is killed and the star quarterback is injured.  The gunman was never caught.  Years later the case is reopened.  Now we have our story.  You can read an excerpt of "The Crossings" here.  And you can hear what Serita has to say about her book here.  I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

This book follows "What Women Fear" from Angie Smith.  This one hits home because I live in fear most of the time.  The self doubting of myself.  I do not know if this is just from my mental illness that I am always worried about what I do and how others perceive my actions.  Or just my messed up, oh my goodness what am I going to do fears.  But I do bet that most of us do just this at one time or the other.  Angie Smith does hit the nail on the head for me here though.  So many have said to just hand it over to God and all fears will go away.  But I do like that Angie knows it is not just that easy.  That there is work to be done on our part to let go of fears.  And she is willing to give ideas of how to do it. Whether it’s a constant “What if?,” or a nagging fear of abandonment or betrayal, Angie will walk you through every step and reveal how these strongholds can be broken and you can truly be transformed.   You can check out the trailer here.

With these last few books being of the Christian genre, it brings to mind my latest Chicken Soup for the Soul.  "Devotional Stories for Tough Times" is more apt today than in any other time for me.  Not that life has not had it's ups and downs.  But it is a constant struggle daily to figure out how to get all the bills paid, have food on the table and keep the household running.  Not that we are not frugal as ever but that times are just hard.  And I think this is a constant for most households these days.  See there is that fear issue again!  But I do like reading devotionals to help me both lift my spirits and to show me I am not alone.  It is also nice that each story has both a scripture at the beginning of it and a prayer at the end of it.  Sorta helps you see where your headed and to give thanks afterwards.  Struggles test us all, but you will find counsel and reassurance in these devotional stories of faith, strength, and prayer. This collection is filled with stories that show God's presence during times of trouble — from illness, addictions, job loss, grief, and much more — providing a boost and reminder of God's ever-present love. I find encouragement, solace, and hope in these personal stories and prayers.

Well this has been my reading list for December.  I think they have been quite appropriate.  And it is with great thanks that I give to the wonderful PR firms that help me find such books.  I am amazed at how well they know me.  And often contact me with just the right book for the place I am in at.

16 Days & Counting

Jell-OImage by markaud via FlickrWell today was a swimming through Jell-O day.  Only two hours of sleep last night due to my silly illness.  Yeah, I know, it is ALL in my head.

I am glad to see that I have my presents wrapped finally.  As I said the other day, it was only 12 hours of work. Honestly, how do others get through this season sane?  I love the ability to share with my family and friends.  And I am thrilled that this blog here is such an amazing help.  (Hey, all that let me do reviews, YOUR APPRECIATED more than I can say!)  But it is hard for me to get it all going on unless I just play a whole day to sort and wrap.

There are some favorites.  I bet you would love to hear of my top for the kiddos right now.  Okay, I will share, but do not tell the kiddos.  You know about Old Mother Hubbard and that poor doggie.  Well I tell you she is not so innocent.  I checked her out and found that she had some cards hidden in her apron pocket. If  you don't believe me then check her out at Spudbottom.  I had to laugh at the Mother Hubbard hand puppet and the story around her. Old Mother Hubbard and her mischievous friends are making a come back this holiday season, thanks to Puppet Heap Playthings.   The company recently launched their first ever line of hand puppets  Mother Hubbard Among Others, a richly designed collection of hand puppets.   These fun, and playful puppets will make the perfect gift this holiday season for kids and adults.  I wanna keep mine as it makes me think of Granny M.  Puppet Heap Playthings is all about inspiring people to share through stories and play.  As such, the hand puppets combine traditional storytelling methods with modern technology to literally put the story in your hands. The first line of characters will be based on the Puppet Heap Moving Picture Company short films, “Mother Hubbard Among Others” and “I Knew an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly".  Each puppet will come with a unique code that will unlock a secret window into that character’s world at the Puppet Heap Playthings website.

Next I have two books that I wanna share with the Grandbabes.  I am so hoping they will be here either Christmas eve or Christmas day.  We have never had that joy as of yet.  But with over 4 sets of grandparents it is hard to get to everyone.  And we are the farthest away.  If they can come then we could read the books together.  If not, then they will be added to their gifts.  I think that my grandson will love exploring "What Am I? Christmas".   This is a simple book that is great for the 3 year old with lift flaps to see what is hiding underneath that is part of Christmas.  Big bold graphics with just a hint of what is hiding makes this a fun book to share.

And I could share my other new book with my granddaughter.  She is reading ever so well.  I know that she would be thrilled to read to her Nonnie.  And since she loves pets so very much, "The Christmas Pups" will be a wonderful story.  It starts off sad learning how they were abandon on a cold wet night.  Thankfully they are found and taken to a local shelter.  With help from an older dog they learn the ropes.  The two boy pups decide to do all they can to help their sister pup get adopted for Christmas.  I great ending and makes me think of all the animals out there looking for their forever homes.  A great story and the paintings are heart warming.

For my youngest step daughter and her beau, we are sharing a gift that will be perfect for them and their doggies.  Currently they all share our home but I know in time they will be looking for a home of their own.  And with big dogs, one is a Great Pyrenees and the other is a Silver Labrador.  Sadly one was hit by a truck and is now a three legged dog.  Well it is hard for a big dog with only three legs get down to the low food and water bowls.  So instead they are getting the Neater Feeder as their Christmas gift.  The Neater Feeder is a revolutionary one-of-a-kind stylish feeding system for cats and dogs that contains spills and splashes. The two-part container allows food to stay in the top reservoir while water naturally drains into the easy to empty lower reservoir, protecting floors from stains and damage and making clean-up a snap! It has extension legs so that it can be a tall feeder which is what makes it perfect for these two dogs.  Since it has beautiful finishes including bronze and cranberry so that the pet dish doesn't take away from the home's decor.  There is also free shipping on all orders!

I had the Ben 10 Ultimate Alien DVD for my kiddos to enjoy this summer.  Well now I am adding in volume 4 "The Wild Truth" to the collection.  In the latest installment of Ben’s adventures, a new alien named Ultimate Wildmutt, who packs an unmatched punch and menacing roar, comes to town to help the team as old enemies resurface. Featuring 12 thrilling episodes from the Ben 10 Ultimate Alien series’ third season, and an Ultimate Alien Database, the 2-Disc DVD will be a hit.  College Girl grew  up with Cartoon Network and will remember so many of the shows on there.  And I know that the kiddos will all hunker down with popcorn, sodas, blankets and pillows for their own pajama party.  It does not matter if they are all 18 years old and older.  Put in one of the shows they grew up with and all of sudden they are all 13 once again.  I bet that seeing Ben 10 will have them all remembering Friday nights, pillow fights and popcorn fights.  Thankfully they are all old enough to clean up the mess now.

And my last favorite gift this year is for the boy across the street.  He has a very active mind.  Always inventing and creating.  I love that about him.  Well since he is going to find a way to take things apart and recreate them into new ideas anyway, I thought that I would give him a lil help.  "Super Sneaky Uses for Everyday Things" is a book that was made for minds like his.  I know it will not be long before he will have a Sneaky Action T-Shirt and will be making up Sneaky Animated Nails too.  So many great ideas.  Inventor Cy Tymony can show people how to turn everyday objects and discarded leftover objects from around the house into valuable tools, toys, and devices .  Cy is a modern-day, real-life MacGyver – someone that people might liken to Mr. Gadget, Maxwell Smart, a mad scientist or a modern day scientific wizard -- only he’s the real thing.   In grade school, he defended himself against school bullies with the help of a spring loaded shocker hidden up his sleeve.  As an adult, he teaches and dazzles people of all ages everywhere with the remarkable demonstrations of ingenuity, imagination and creativity.   Pop over and see some of the things you can do with what you have right at home.

Well it looks like it will be a wonderful holiday.  I have to thank the many PR reps who have helped make it so too.  They are great to share the items above with me.  Making my Christmas list just a lil bit easier to fill.  I know that we are all looking for some of the last minute ideas.  Hopefully some of these may just be what your needing.

A Country Christmas Eve

Christmas in the Country
'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch
The pond was froze over & so was the branch.
The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.
The kids were all home on vacation from school,
And happier young folks you never did see-
Just all sprawled around a-watchin' TV.
Family watching television, c. 1958Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock,
There came a surprise that gave them a shock!
The power went off, the TV went dead!
When Grandpa came in from out in the shed
With an armload of wood, the house was all dark.
"Just what I expected," they heard him remark.
"Them power line wires must be down from the snow.
Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago."Robert Blackwelder playing the fiddle: Dundee,...
"I'll hunt up some candles," said Mom.  "With their light,
And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right."
The teen-agers all seemed enveloped in gloom.
Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,
Uncased his old fiddle & started to play
Hark! The Herald Angels SingThat old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh.
Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew
Both Pop & the kids were all singing it, too.
They sang Christmas carols, they sang "Holy Night,"
Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight.
They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth,
And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth.
They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe,
The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve.
Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn;
And when the kids wakened, the power was on..A Christmas tree inside a home.
"The power company sure got the line repaired quick,"
Said Grandpa - & no one suspected his trick.
Last night, for the sake of some old-fashioned fun,
He had pulled the main switch - the old Son-of-a-Gun!
