Fun Filled Weekend

Whew today has been one busy day.  As a matter of fact the whole weekend has had us going 90 to nothing.  Friday night was my niece's 25th birthday.  Happy day for her!  So her two kiddos and Princess Emma all popped over for a evening of play.  The kids spent the night and Princess Emma came back over Saturday to continue in the festivities.

Princess Emma showed up with her GeoPalz on.  Have you seen them?  Emma has the butterfly.  She wears it all the time at home, playing in the park and such.  In time she will get to wear it at school but Other Mother wants the new to wear off so she does not mess with it and get in trouble for not paying attention.  Good Idea.    Emma was in her first marathon last year and has hopes of doing more.  She may not be fast but she does not stop at all.  I wish I had her lasting energy.

GeoPalz is the first decorative pedometer for kids.  You can go online to register your steps for an interactive media and gaming arcade. This is designed to promote physical fitness through rewards-based online gaming. Through the website, users can exchange steps walked (and logged through their pedometer) for time with games. In order to promote the budding young gamer (5+) to also get active and stay healthy, GeoPalz has launched this brand new arcade! GeoPalz has a prize option available (frisbees, basketballs, even bikes), but now the kids have even more options.

There was also movies playing.  Having 3 kiddos from the age of 4 to 6 and both girls and a boy we needed variety.  Sometimes all three were watching and other times one or two was.  Now everyone was happy to watch an episode of Sid the Science Kid.  It was 'Sleep? Who needs it?'.  Gosh that is one for me too.  I sleep so very little with out help of medication.  Sid thinks if he stays up all night then he and his toys can pretend to fly in space.  So at school he checks out just why you need sleep.  I really liked the way the kiddos all learned how to slow down and rest.  I was ready to sleep too!  These new episodes will run in November the 12th - 15th.  Watch for them.

Our lil man was all hands on deck to see Disney's Jake and the Neverland Pirates in Jake Saves Bucky.  He especially loved having his own inflatable sword to join in on the swash buckling action.  This was just released with 5 episodes so you can pick a show at a time.  We started off with the feature.  Then for a bonus we joined in on the Pirate-oke.  That is a pirate version of karaoke.  It is fun to pretend with the kids this way.  But I have to make sure they do not decide to make me walk the plank.  You can join in on the fun with the downloadable games 7 activities.

Now the last show the kiddos did not get to see.  I think it is a lil over their age range.  But JD is itching to get her hands on it.  I think it will be part of her Christmas this year.  She is just an overgrown kid like her Poppa.  She has season one so here is part 2 of season two of CatDog.  Shout! Factory always has the best of Nickolodeon shows.  It is pure nostalgia for JD.  CatDog’s friendship helps them to stick together through a steady stream of outrageous escapades that bring fun, excitement and a heap of uproarious adventures — as if they have any choice!

I wish to thank all of the companies above for providing us a fun filled weekend. I promise we did our fair share of running, pretending and even just chilling some.  Hey you know it is movie time with they ask for popcorn for breakfast!

Beanfield Boogie Crispilious Dance

Princess Emma fell in love with the Beanfields Chips that I reviewed.
She wanted a bag of her own even.
So she was willing to do the Beanfield Boogie Crispilious Dance.
What would you do to get a bag of Beanfields?

You can read about these great chips at Amazing Chips and Found the Perfect Chip.

Taxes-Yuck! Disney-Yeah!

Today was a great day even though we had to deal with filing our taxes.  That is never fun but a necessary evil in life.  And for us it is more so that we have to file yet the return still goes to his ex wife for back child support. As I have said before I understand and agree.  But of course the desire to have a lil extra to help around here is still there.  Also we are having to cut back even more since Our Gentleman passed away this last fall.  Sad but true we are going to have to let our car go back to the dealership.  OUCH!  I love it but the drop in household income does not support a car payment at this time.  Thus it will be going bye bye soon.  We will learn the joy of exercise as we walk to the local convenience store for milk, bread and such.  Big trips to the grocery store will be helped out by The Other Mother thankfully.  And Dear Hubby can catch a ride to work with a co-worker and pay for the gas.  Sadly Granny M will have to fore go church though.  It is out in the country and she was the one who carried the folks from the nursing home to church.  Without a car she will not be able to continue to do that.

Download Printable Activities! Even with all of this we are looking up at all the good we have.  And this afternoon and evening we did family movie day.  Bring on the popcorn and join us in all the good ones.  We started out with Disney Junior Mickey Mouse Clubhouse I  <3 Minnie.  Just in time for Valentines day.  This was a good intro for Princess Emma for her first Kindergarten Valentines day and all the fun of passing out cards to friends.  The plus is the DVD and digital copy that is in here.  We can keep one and share one if we wish.  Or for those with portable DVD players in the car or laptops there is that spare to keep there.  There are 5 episodes in this one.  So I know that it would be good for quiet time when your trying to get the lil ones down for a nap.  Just watch one of the episodes to slow down the pace a lil, read a book next, then off to beddie bye land.  Now to add to the fun the inside of the DVD cover is also a coloring sheet with puzzles and mazes to follow.  It seems all the basis are being covered here.

Download Printable Activities! Next we had lunch that was looking for fun.  Hot dogs cooked over the flame are always a hit with the kiddos.  Add in a few crunch baby carrots with that ever so cheerful pink-a-licious that we serve and there were smiles all the way around.  Then on to movie number two of the day, Disney Treasure Buddies.  Another great combo pack that was Blu-ray and DVD.  I can not wait to share this with the Grandbabes!  I know that they will love Digger, Cammy and Babi, the new friends to the Buddies.  Princess Emma asked all about Egypt where the Buddies are looking for the legendary Cat's Eye jewel.  We even made a headdress for here to wear after the show.  Then Princess Emma helped The Other Mother in making the hummus while I put together the kabobs for dinner.  Dear Hubby and Pappi had fired up the grill for us so it was time to cook dinner and then enjoy smores with chocolate marshmallows.  Too much fun for one day?

Not for us.  We love to have a massive movie day once a month as a fun time for all of us to snuggle in together.  Now we all love Minnie and have known her for our whole life.  And the Buddies are some of Princess Emma's favorites to dream of playing with.  But when it comes to College Girl she is one for the classic Disney movies.  When she was little she had them all.  You can not imagine her dismay when the entire collection was lost in our house fire years ago.  So when I pulled out our last movie of the night she squealed like you would not believe.  Disney released the Diamond Edition of Lady and the Tramp.  What can I say?  It is like going home when you see a Disney classic.  Princess Emma loved cuddling up with her big sissy, College Girl for this one.  And was quick to start to learn the songs that sissy sang along with during the movie.

Yes, the day had a lil rough start.  The necessary parts of life true.  But we made it a all around family fun day by sharing Disney and our family.  It is what makes it worth while to have lil ones around.  Thanks so to Disney for sharing the movies with us.  Thanks to our other half of family for spending time with us.  And thanks to College Girl for coming home for the weekend.  Please keep Granny M in your prayers.  We have more heart conditions cropping up.  This next week she will be back in the hospital for another blockage.  We are not sure what will be the outcome but we know that she is in good hands.

Grandbabes Make Us Happy

It was wonderful to have the grandbabes here this last weekend.  Of course Princess Emma was here most of the time too.  We love hearing them all giggle while they are either jumping around with the Wii or decorating my porch with the sidewalk chalk.  There was plenty of Pink-alicious (a pink colored juice) consumed while we had a baseball game in the backyard.  But of course we also snuggled in and watched A Dolphin Tale.  It was wonderful if you have not had a chance to see it yet.

On top of all of that there was bedtime stories.  We loved reading 'The Cookie Thief' by Francis Gilbert and Ben Quesel after singing Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar.  The kiddos all loved singing along.  Then we launched into our night time story.  Thomas notices that the cookies are missing from cookie jars all over the neighborhood.  When everyone is doing all they can to have them watched.  Finally Kristina decides to set up a trap to catch the cookie thief.  Thomas wants to help but is reluctant to hide behind the couch where it is dark and small.  With much prodding Kristina finally gets Thomas to move the couch....and wow, there are the cookies.  But who is the Cookie Thief?

We have also been fighting all kinds of sinus problems.  Tissues are running very low here.  So we also enjoyed Cougar Cub Tales "The Sneezy Wheezy Day" by Sharon Cramer.  What a great way to learn that helping each other it makes being under the weather a lil easier to handle.  Reading how brother cub isn’t feeling well and his sister  and brother cub seek help for his cold.  They encounter many silly home remedies. One friend even tells brother cub, “Tickle your nose with the tail of a goose and do it before the next blue moon rise!” they appreciate all of the recommendations help but the final remedy is his sister's love.  I know the kiddos were more than willing to help get tissues for Princess Emma after reading our book.  The Sneezy Wheezy Day e-book is available as a free download on Amazon through Saturday.  What a great deal...go download your copy.

Add in the fun of singing along to the Veggie Tales and you can see we had a full weekend.  This time we had "If I Sang a Silly Song" and "God Loves You Very Much".  Of course College Girl jumped right on in.  She loved Veggie Tales as a teen and is having a blast sharing it with her lil sister Princess Emma and her niece and nephew.  Larry the Cucumber hosts “The Silly Song Telethon” and counts down the top favorite silly songs of all-time... voted for by thier fans!! The fun continues with a surprise introduction of a never-before-seen, new Silly Song chosen by Larry the Cucumber from thousands of fan submissions!  VeggieTales: God Loves You Very Much is a fun and family friendly film featuring stories that demonstrate how God cares for us in all kinds of situations!  It features three fan-favorite VeggieTales stories that teach other valuable lessons about love, Gideon: Tuba WarriorThe Ballad of Little Joe and my favorite Rack, Shack & Benny. The title also includes an all-new “story-song” called Does He Love Me?

I loved my weekend.  I loved my grandbabes.  I loved Princess Emma.  And more so I loved the memories we make every time we spend time together.  Thanks so much to all the ones who send me books and videos to share with them.

Help with the Family

Howdy everyone!  How is today treating you?  Good, yeah hot here too.  Looking at 107 right now and know it will be up to 111 today at least.  I am working on my house and chores early in the mornings right now.  And then doing inside chores like folding laundry, working on blog and things like that during the heat of the day.  That way I can hide in my bedroom where the lil a/c is for me.  Evenings are inventive on how to have chilled meals as cooking is definitely out.  Also that is now becoming a heavy family time weather it be playing Wii, watching movies or chatting.  We are all gathered in one small room so we are having plenty of 'family' time.

In doing so I have noticed how we look at things as we grow.  Weather it be viewed from Princess Emma to Granny M, each age range has it's on set of priorities.  So it made me think about what are some things we can do as parents to help in each age range as our children grow from babes to college age.  And with brand new babes around we have to start with Baby's First Year.  I have The Essential Guide to Baby's First Year that I want to share with my step son and his wife for their newborn babe, The Turtle.  I think it is something that will come in handy for a first time mom.  Just today she was asking me how to stop his hiccups.  I looked it up to see if there was something I did not know.  But alas, as we guess, there's not much you can do but soothe them with a pat on the back.  What we do naturally.  There is tons of information here though.  Weather it be looking at feeding issues, milestones on the first year, those common illnesses that bother us so or just how thing happen and change.  I want to get this to her in the mail as soon as possible.  Stacy look out for it!

For parents who are making baby food for the first time, try starting with a simple fruit puree recipe, like this one from page 177:

Vegetarian-Vegan Fruit Compote

Ingredients:
-1 apple, cored and sliced
-1 plum, sliced
-1 peach, peeled and sliced
-1 slice of lemon
-Pinch of cinnamon
-2 tsp. brown sugar
-2 cups water

Boil water with the sugar and cinnamon. Add the fruits and cook until they are soft. Squeeze the slice of lemon over the mixture. Cool. Serve as is or on top of a waffle or pancake (A great breakfast option).

Now Princess Emma is starting school this year.  The oldest Grandbabe is in 2nd grade too.  Education is becoming the focus for their families.  I love that we have so many learning aids to help them out.  P.E. is using the  learning to read DVD set that I gave her last month.  I hope she becomes a great reader like my Grandbabe is.  She read to her baby brother every evening when they were here for their last visit.    What is your focus with the kiddos starting school soon?  Getting back into the swing of things?  How to maximize study time?   Schedule changes and getting on track?  I have my College Girl who is going to be moving into her first apartment this year.  I wonder if she will be returning home next summer or not.  Will this be her last time at home or will she be one of the Boomerang Kids?  It has become well known that many of the young 20 year olds often strike out on their own but if things get tough they return home.  It is like a trial independence that many feel has lead to a failed adulthood.  I remember my older brother having to return home after his first time out.  He was greatly depressed.  I am looking at how I can help CG to make these changes in her life.  Also to accept that there may be those in and out times of life.  I love how parents can help children overcome the following challenges:

  • Missing home and family: loneliness after moving out on one’s own
  • Managing increased freedom: increased discretionary choice
  • Unemployment: seeking or losing a job
  • Indebtedness: overspending and credit card living
  • Stress: coping with excessive demand
  • Fear of the future: facing what to do with one’s life

Of course are we helping our kids learn how to make decisions, have a good attitude or to try and make it in these hard times?   I love sharing with College Girl.  And have handed her three books that may just help her out.  This summer she met people who were joy robbers and energy drainers.  It was such a bummer for her to find that some people just go out of their way to make your day a lil bit harder.  In sharing Attitude, Try and Decide with her, she can put out a positive first step when meeting people.  Also work hard on making the best of her every day life.  Most of all not to give in to those who test our good nature.  As Karen Okulicz says "You Can't Out Think Crazy".  Keeping that in mind we can make the best decisions for our own lives and not give in to what other peoples opinions are.

And last off is when you do get school out of the way, settle down in your life and the day to day living really sets in.  Then we find that we are often over whelmed with how hard it is to just stay caught up on our responsibilities at home.  Taking care of the home is a job that is never ending.  I am glad that I do not have the thought that Granny M has.  She told me "Why clean like mad, it just has to be done again tomorrow."  Well I do not like to clean like mad but I do want a neat organized home.  I have found that doing chores in small bites works well for me.  I wake early by nature so I use that quiet time to get dishes done, sweep and mop and do the dog yard.  It really only takes a few minutes for each task.  Also I can do many lil jobs in between other activities.  I do not watch much TV but there is the odd show I would not want to miss.  But I hate commercials.  So when they pop on I can pop up and change out a load of laundry, make a bed or even sweep the front porch.  Just lil chores that can pile up on you when ignored.  I have Totally Together which gives me shortcuts to an organized life.  Many of the ideas in it were common to me but to have a daily planner included for chores, meals and seasonal jobs helps out.  All divided up in bite size chunks.  It keeps me from feeling overwhelmed but thrilled with the success of a job well done.  I would fully recommend it for those that need that lil extra boost in managing a household.

Well these are my hints at ways to help your family at different levels of life.  What hints would you give me?  How about ways to help a 77 year old change?  Okay, I know that will never happen.  Wait...wait....she did.  She stopped smoking after a life time habit.  She is taking good care of her health now.  And stays very active with friends.  Dang if I did not give her enough credit.  Granny M, Good Job!  Also thanks to all that have sent me books to read and review.  I am thrilled with them.  Great way to help my family and me too.

I'm Back with a FREE Cookbook

Whew, what a week off.  Texas heat abounds.  But it was great to have the time with Dear Hubby and run around.  Visited College Girl and was so proud of all of her hard work.  Traveled with Princess Emma who behaved like a dream!  Hard to do for a 4 going on 5 year old.  Enjoyed a birthday weekend with her and family.  And then had my Grandbabes arrive too!  Yippee!  They are here for a week.  But......  look what happened.
The poor dear laid down for a nap and woke up with pink eye.  Dang the luck.  We did the ER thing since it was the weekend.
Dear Hubby knew just how to keep him happy while waiting for the doctor.  Now it is eye drops and being isolated at home.  No visiting with other kiddos or great grand parents.  We are hiding at home in the bedroom keeping ourselves entertained.  They are a wiz at sword fighting on the Wii!

I have tons of catching up to do.  Stacks and stacks of books to read.  And today this came in my email to share with you.  Really cool deal!

Perfect Pairings: Blue Eyes

For this Sunday's Perfect Pairings (link along with That's Baloney), I wanted to share a child's eyes with you. And the verse I have for it is:

And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth and said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant.  Genesis 18:1-3 ESV

This is Princess Emma, I know you all know her.  And her lovely shining blue eyes!  I have to say that this lil lady has made my world one of joy that I could have never realized.  As I have said before she is my College Girls lil sissy but not my daughter.  She is the daughter of my Ex and JenJo (my friend and love).  And the group of us make a wonderful happy family.  Just goes to show that divorce does not mean all those horrid images at all.  But can be done with love and kindness.  Remembering it is the children who always come first.

We recently shared Beautiful Blue Eyes with Princess Emma as her newest bed time story.  It is another of the books by Marianne Richmond.  She has put out many wonderful children's books. Her career was launched by accident; she was diagnosed with a brain tumor (thankfully benign), the cause of numerous epileptic seizures through her childhood. During her five-week recovery period, Marianne created hand-painted thank you cards for her many well-wishers. With Jim’s, her then new boyfriend, and friend’s encouragement, she decided to launch her own greeting card business, Marianne Richmond Studios, Inc. As distribution for her cards increased, she decided to try her hand at writing a book, honoring her biggest fan, her now-husband Jim, with The Gift of an Angel.  Her books have continued and this is the latest one.  To celebrate that Blue Eyed child in your life.

She says in her book:

“I watched, and I waited
as your eyes chose their hue,
deciding in time
on their beautiful blue.

Blue as a butterfly
or the sparkling sea.
Blue as the bluebird
who sings in her tree.”

Isn't that musical?  I love it and plan on sharing it with my other blue eyed beauties, my grandbabes!

And as always, I do not get paid for book reviews.  I just get to enjoy them.  Isn't that lucky?

It's Party Time

We had a blast with the Grandbabes here.  So much so that we were able to throw a birthday party.  It was really special.  It seems we happened to have the Grandbabes and Princess Emma here just when it was the birthday of The Stuffed Puppy and Dumbo.  We were surprised!  But hey we can roll with that.  It was a quick plan but the Other Mother and I whipped up a birthday tea party.  Here is how it went.

I made a white raspberry cake with cream cheese icing and coconut
in the shape of a bone for the stuffed dogs part.

The Other Mother put out a lemon raspberry cake with
strawberry icing topped in circus peanuts for Dumbo.
Pretty good job so far!

Next we brewed up some lemon ginger tea for the tea party part.
Added in garlic cream cheese cucumber sandwiches and homemade pimento cheese with ham sandwiches.  Cut them into the points.
Placed a plate of cut up apples and cucumbers to go with it.

This laid out a lovely table with The Grandbabes and Princess Emma attending.
What a spread!

Our Grandson really loved his tea....yummmm.....good to the last drop.

Did you want some cake too?

At the end Momma Doggie sang Happy Birthday to the special guest.
What a wrap up!
