Special Dinner

Here it is, 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning.  I have been awake for 4 hours since Dear Hubby decided to wrap up like a burrito in the covers.  But gosh, I had plenty of dogs and cats for covers.

I decided it was better to 'pop' out of bed and start my day instead.  So what have I accomplished with my morning?  Well I terrorized FaceBook to start off with.  It seems to have fed my addiction pretty well.  I plan on moving on to Klout and Pinterest soon.  And hopefully get my reviews back in my planner for July.

In the kitchen I have two crock pots full of beans that I had soaked overnight.  I do soak my beans and then pour off the water.  Rinse them and start with fresh water.  It seems to help get rid of a lot of the gas that the beans release. Today is my sister's birthday and I am fixing up some yummies to carry to her party.  There is a dark chocolate cheesecake baking in the oven right now.   I already made the creamy dill cucumber salad yesterday to chill.  I drained off the fruit from the cucumber ginger lemonade this morning too.  It had been sitting overnight to gain all the flavor from the fruit.  From the recipe I found online it looks like I left out the ever important Vodka!

Cucumber Ginger Lemonade

The combination of fresh lemons, ginger, and cucumbers will quench your thirst while improving your digestion.
Directions: In a tall glass, combine 1.5 oz vodka, 1 Tbsp simple syrup, 3 cucumber slices, the juice of one lemon, freshly shaved ginger root (to taste), and 1 cup water. Stir, serve over ice and garnish with lemon rind.
Here is my sister with her lovely gaggle of Grandbabes.  Can you believe she is 59 years old!  I know, I am so jealous of how young she has always looked.   There is a 10 year age gap between my only sister and myself.  Though she has always looked younger than me.

But as I sit here with my lovely cup of Kahlua coffee I am trying to think of what I can make special for my sister's get together.  I make a decent homemade bisquit.  I could do that with sausage and cheese in them.  Lil appetizers for easy eating.  There is a quick recipe but I prefer to make my bisquit dough from scratch.  I don't know yet.  But I can smell the cheesecake so I must take off and check it out.

  1. I hope you had a great birthday party with your sister. That cucumber drink looked really delicious. I have a question though, I am not much of a ginger person. Does it have a strong ginger taste? It sure sounds like it would be quite refreshing.
