I Have Donuts!

We had a wonderful breakfast today.  Dear Hubby, JDL and I made homemade donuts.  (Yes, I was drooling!)  I knew the Grandbabes and Princess Emma would adore this as a fun (and messy) meal.


Dear Hubby had never made donuts at home before.  We did growing up using canned biscuits.  But I made up a homemade batch of biscuit dough today.  We used the Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil to fry them up in.  I have to say that it melted well, no smoking at all (some oils do that) and was great tasting.  Not heavy at all like many vegetable oils can be.  Now I am know for burning myself when I fry so Dear Hubby does that part for me.  I rolled the dough up into small balls and he did the actual cooking.

We also did some up in mini donut shaped too.

JDL was our icing expert.  Some she dipped into red colored icing we had used before on our brownie pizza.  And others she drizzle with cinnamon icing.  Don't they look wonderful?

The kiddos were so happy to see their special surprise breakfast.  There is my Grandbabes TK and Landon on each end with Princess Emma in the middle.

Yes, they were a roaring success!

We used the oil last night when we made homemade spaghetti sauce that had yellow zucchini in it. (Great way to add in veggies for kiddos.)  We sauteed the zucchini and onions in the coconut oil first.  Then added them to our sauce.  Oh wow, they had such a wonderful silky flavor.  Better than when we used the NUDO extra virgin first press olive oil on the yellow squash and onions from the dinner the night before.  Yes we did do a taste testing to see which we would prefer.  The coconut oil won out!
