I enjoyed a lil walk with Granny M yesterday. It was a short walk (she can not go to far on those knees) but one that showed us the sights of Texas. You see spring in Texas brings out the bluebonnets (our state flower). I love seeing them. Now I know that they are just lil ol wildflowers, but wildflowers are to be respected. I mean just ask Lady Bird Johnson. She was dedicated to spreading the beauty of wildflowers all over. In the Texas Hill Country there is the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center that shows off the beauty of these flowers every spring. I was really happy to see this listed in 1,000 Places To See Before You Die.
What a great lil book. I have seen all that is listed in Texas being all native here. But oh to visit so many other places throughout the world. Wow! Actually I think this is a great lil book for anyone who is lucky enough to travel anywhere. They have websites, addresses and phone numbers listed for places everywhere. What have you seen of your home state? Do you play tourist sometimes? What would you show off to your friends? Do you have places you desire to see? I would like to go to the greats. The Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Hershey Chocolate.....lol well it would be fun. I loved visiting New York City and Washington D.C. before. Now those are wonderful places to be a tourist.
Oh another would be Route 66. It travels all over. Even right through Albuquerque, New Mexico. You can also see the Balloon Fiesta there in October. Of course if you can not travel there you can visit through a story. I have been to Albuquerque when I was a child to visit my Grandmother. It was native and wild to me. But I have been back through my books when reading The Albuquerque Turkey recently. This was just as wild for me as it was when I was a child. Now back then it was seeing things so unknown to me. Now it was reading about the con artist and his escapades through out Vegas. Yeah, I thought I was traveling to New Mexico but ended up in Nevada. Goes that way with travel doesn't it. I had a rip roaring good time learning about the high roller life while following the con cross, double-cross and triple-cross people all over. I know that I had to stay on my toes with this one. Not the safe lil traveling companion I imagined.
Well as you know I love to read. And the reviews keep the books coming in. Thank goodness for all the good folks out there who provide them for me. I also want to remind you that this is not a paying gig....just my favorite past time shared with you. So tell me, where do you want to go? And have you gotten there in a book lately?
The wildflowers are spectacular this time of year. I visited Ennis last year and was amazed at the fields. They're a bit sporadic here in Fort Worth.

We just came back from our first trip to Texas - San Antonio - and we had a great time. Beautiful city and really lovely people....can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteYou are right - we need to visit our own country as much as others.
