Texas Tall True Tales

Howdy all!  Today is pretty warm here in Central Texas.  The high is already in the mid 80's here.  So with the warmer weather it seems I am back to getting out and about more.  Thus we have a modge podge of things today.

Let's start off with a homemade weed killer I found online.  You may have heard of it already.  It is 1 gallon of white vinegar, 1/2 cup salt, Liquid dish soap (any brand) Empty spray bottle Put salt in the empty spray bottle and fill it the rest of the way up with white vinegar. Add a squirt of liquid dish soap (I used Dawn). This solution works best if you use it on a hot day. Spray it on the weeds in the morning, and as it heats up it will do its work.  I made up a fourth of this to try it out.  Thus 4 cups of vinegar and 1/8 cup of salt and some Dawn.

Let's start with this lil ol weed here in the right side of the wagon wheel spokes.

Uh?  Think that worked great!  Used it in the morning and by mid day this was the results.

Sprayed some of those weeds coming up in the seam of the sidewalk.

Gosh dryed up and dead in less than 6 hours!  I am going to mix up a gallon and use it all over my horrid front yard.  Let's see if this will kill the grass burrs?

Do you know what these are?

Well let me tell you.  I was washing out a baking hen for Sunday dinner and out popped one of these.  Yes, when I was rinsing out the inside of the bird I got a unfinished EGG out.  Wait, there was another as I rinsed.

Has this ever happened to you?  Wildest thing ever.  These are the yokes of the egg before the rest of the shell and all are formed.

Now for our latest on Hog hunting in Texas.
Last weekend it seems that we were to go wild hog hunting right in my very own front yard.  The Grandbabes spotted the hog rooting around and called me.  Of course I hollered at The Other Mother (she was visiting) to hurry and come quick....but quietly!
Showed her the hog and yes, we were off to get us one of our own.  It only took about 15 minutes before we were rewarded with a lil pig all of our own.  As a matter of fact it went on to Princess Emma and The Other Mother's house to live.  Emma named it Sparkle.  Wanna see?

Yeppers!  We found a guinea pig wondering our yard.  HONEST!  Checked and it did not belong to our neighbors either.  I have no idea where it came from but it was a pet before.

Sparkle was so happy to have a home again, fresh water, yummy veggies and people to pet her.  I have to say, The Other Mother was happy to provide a home too.

So?  What tall tales do you have?  Funny for all of mine are true.  You can kill weeds with vinegar and salt.  Chickens still lay eggs after they are dead.  And you can catch a wild hog and make it a pet...at least you can in Texas.  Oh and yes, it is in the mid 80's in April!
