Dear Hubby Takes Over

Well I have been off 'working' (ha ha) for friends.  Actually loving the house/pet sitting I get the chance to do.  Such wonderful mini stay-cations.  Then today I will be popping out to do an MRI on my knee before the Doctor looks at it again on Wednesday.  Looks like my RA has finally done quite a number on me after 10+ years of attacking my body.  So with these things taking up my time Dear Hubby offered to step in and help me out.  This weekend he finished "The Quaker State Affair" by Dan Romain.  This really seemed like a great book to match up with him.  I will give you a lil about the book below but here is what Dear Hubby thought about it.

In this book the author is well-versed in the world of academia and brings the sciences in a way that us mere mortals can understand. With rich characters that I would like to continue hearing from. The scenario is scary in it's plausibility. But with glimpses of the future that one would hope were possible.  Dan kept my attention all the way through, making me resent times that the world called me from it. All in all a very enjoyable read. Hope to hear more from this author.  It maybe better to say 'The Quaker State Affair' makes a wonderful marriage between the world of academia and the sciences with the world of intrigue and politics. Not every author can do this but Dan did in such a manner.

The Quaker State Affair Book Summary

What happens when “some day” finally arrives?

A mysterious explosion in Taiwan. Nuclear secrets stolen from Los Alamos. China’s manifest destiny at hand.

In the near future, America and China go head-to-head in a battle of technological bluffs, setting in motion a chain of events that could lead to skyrocketing oil prices, the end of the dollar, the American way of life, and the republic itself. The only man who might have an answer in the midst of the international crisis is Patrick “Mac” McDaniels, a world-renowned physicist who wants nothing to do with the government. Has he been conducting revolutionary energy research in secret? And if so, will McDaniels be America’s salvation—or its ruin?

  1. Lenore, Dear Hubby did a fantastic job on the review. So glad that he enjoyed Dan's book and that he felt that complex concepts were broken down for the average, everyday reader - always good to know :)
